Our end of year finale trip to Kandersteg is coming around fast....an opportunity to celebrate another great year of scouting with Pack 681! 

 

For those who haven't been before, it is a fun packed event where the boys get to take part in some fun activities with both their Den and the Pack.  The cooking, as normal is done in Dens and there will of course be the usual fun around the campfire , including the traditional "fire starter" event!!

 

We now invite you to register for Kandersteg!  YOU  WILL HAVE UNTIL Friday 1st June TO REGISTER.

 

When: Friday 15th - Sunday 17th June 2018.  

 

  • We are suggesting that families should aim to arrive on the Friday evening this year as it makes the whole weekend more relaxing and enables us to have a prompt formal start to the weekend on the Saturday.
  • ARRIVAL TIME: You can arrive in Kandersteg anytime on the Friday evening or, if that is not possible for you, arrivals will also be possible from 9.00 - 10.00 on the Saturday morning.
  • DEPARTURE TIME: the formal Pack events will finish at 12pm on the Sunday but individuals Dens have activities planned for after that with the weekend closing around 3.30 - 4pm (this will however vary by Den). 

 

Who: the whole family is invited to join us!

 

  • It really is a full family event set to celebrate the cubs, their families and the exciting year that we have had. 

 

Where: Kandersteg International Scout Centre (www.kisc.ch)

             Wadetiweg 7, 3718 Kandersteg.  

 

  • We will all be camping and we are hoping to  secure the same plot that we have had the last few years (at the very back of the site) as it is a great location.  
  • For any parents/siblings who do not wish to camp (note all cubs are expected to camp), beds are available in the Kandersteg Lodge and can be booked direct with Kandersteg.  PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU NEED TO BOOK THIS YOURSELVES.   If you choose to do this, please note that there be a small additional charge when you register which will cover food that the Pack provides on the Saturday and Sunday.

 

High level agenda: a detailed agenda will be circulated the week
           before we travel, however, to give you an idea of what to
           expect, we have provided below a high level agenda:

  • FRIDAY: no planned events
  • SATURDAY: 
    • 10.30: Opening Ceremony
    • 11.00 - 4.00: Individual Den events - this year, all Dens except Web 2s will be hiking.  Web 2s, following tradition will be white water rafting.
    • 4.30: fire starter competition
    • 5.15 - 7.30: Den dinners
    • 8.00: Campfire
  • SUNDAY:
    • 11.00: Closing ceremony and Web 2s crossover
    • 12.00: Individual Den events.

          You will receive separate notification from your Den leader
          regarding individual Den events. 


Food: food for the weekend will be organised as follows:


  • FRIDAY: as arrival times will vary, we are leaving families to arrange their own dinner on Friday evening. There are a few good restaurants in Kandersteg which you can book in advance if you will be down in time.  We will provide details of these when we send the more detailed email a week before we travel.
  • SATURDAY:  the Pack will provide a continental breakfast (to include bread, croissants, butter and jam, tea and coffee), a packed lunch (to include bread, cold meats and cheese, a piece of fruit and crisps).  The evening meal will be provided by the Den and we will cook this together as a group.  PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE ONLY STAYING ON THE SATURDAY NIGHT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN PACKED LUNCH FOR THAT DAY.
  • SUNDAY: the Pack will provide a continental breakfast (to include bread, croissants, butter and jam, tea and coffee), a packed lunch (to include bread, cold meats and cheese, a piece of fruit and crisps).
  • SNACKS AND DRINKS: you should bring your own snacks and drinks for the weekend.
  • ALCOHOL: just a reminder that alcohol is frowned upon by the Boy Scouts of America (and this year we have some senior members of BSA at Kandersteg at the same time as us!), however, we recognise that you are adults and this is a weekend away for you.  Our restrictions are as follows:
    • Absolutely no alcohol will be permitted around the campfire during the evening ceremony on the Saturday evening
    • Alcohol should only be consumed by adults once the cubs are all in bed and noise should be kept to a minimum.

Costs:   

  • 45chf per person for Friday - Sunday
  • If you are unable to stay the Friday night, the cost is 36chf per person (excludes Friday night camping and Saturday morning breakfast and lunch)
  • Siblings who are 5 and under  can join us for free. 
  • For anyone staying in the Lodge (please book yourselves), the cost of the food will be providing will be 17chf per person

These costs include breakfast, packed lunch and dinner on the Saturday, along with breakfast and a packed lunch on the Sunday. They also includes all camping costs and activities.  Please note, this price excludes the white water rafting cost for Web 2s - there will be a separate registration.

 

More details will be sent to registrants nearer the time - at this stage we just want to know if you are coming! However, we also acknowledge that some of you may need to buy camping supplies so I have attached last year's recommended packing list as an initial guide.
