Join members of Boy Scouts of America (BSA) from all around the world as they commemorate the anniversary of the Normandy landings. This is a full Pack event so all cubs and all family members are welcome – especially relatives of Scouts who served during the war.

This is an outstanding event and a weekend that youth (especially older youth) and adults will remember for the rest of their lives.

WHEN:

The main camporee event will take place from Friday 12th April to Sunday 14th April but all are invited to stay for the week before the event.

  • Wednesday-Friday: Arrivals.
  • On the Saturday, we will hire a coach to take us to the American Cemetary and one of the local museums (likely to be the Airborne Museum in Colleville-sur-Mer).   The evening campfire will be on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach where we will have a special cross over ceremony for Webelos
  • On the Sunday, there is an option for us to join the BSA closing ceremony although we recognise that many of you will want to start the long drive back to Basel.

ACCOMMODATION:

We expect cubs (plus one parent) to camp on the Friday and Saturday night and we will be organising this with BSA who have exclusive use to two campsites in the area. Once our registration is confirmed we will be staying at one of two possible campsites located near to each other. Please note that the entire Pack will camp together, we will not split up between campsites.

We will confirm which campsite we are staying in once we have confirmed numbers and liased with BSA.

For parents and siblings not wishing to camp, the closest towns to the event with hotels are Bayeux (largest town), Port-en-Bessin, and St Laurent Sur Mer. There are also a wide range of bed and breakfasts (Chambre de Hote) in the area.

We ask that you organise this yourselves.

You can also contact the tourist bureau in Bayeux at http://bayeux-bessin-tourisme.com/en/.

COST:

The cost of the event will depend on how long you are staying, whether you are camping and how many of you are attending:

Friday / Saturday accommodation and attendance costs (payment upon registration):

  • Camping Friday and Saturday only: 130chf per person (pp).  This includes camping, attendance at the scouting events, coach travel on the Saturday, breakfast on the Saturday and Sunday morning and packed lunch on the Saturday.
  • Staying offsite on the Friday and Saturday but joining us for the various scouting events (includes everything above except the camping and breakfasts): 75chf pp.
Friday / Saturday additional costs (we will request this once numbers are confirmed nearer the date):
  •
  • There will also be a charge for entry into the Airborne Museum (or similar) which will be approx €10 per adult and €5 per child.
  • Depending on final numbers, the cost of coach hire for the Saturday (to take us around the area as a Pack) may work out slightly more expensive but we won't know until registration is complete.
Extended stay costs (payment upon registration):
  • For each additional night that you camp at one of the BSA selected campsites, you will be charged 15chf per person per night.  This includes camping only and you can indicate this when you register.
